My research focuses on radical performances in popular culture. I study public actors who gain popular attention via gender and the critical effects on public discourse. My research encompasses these key areas:

               • Radical expressions of gender and sexuality

Special Projects

New Graduate Instructor Training (teaching assistant to Dr. Belle Edson): NGIT is a semester-long seminar focusing on pedagogy in the undergraduate classroom for incoming MA and PhD students. Teaching practices are examined from multiple perspectives, including theoretical and practical, with special emphasis placed on critical pedagogy practices. The class serves as a program orientation and support system for new instructors.

In Progress

From February 2011 to May 2011 I will be enrolled in the Spartanburg Department of Public Safety Citizen’s Academy, which serves to build bridges between the community and the Public Safety office. My fieldwork in the Academy and 28 ½ hours of police ride-alongs will seek to explore how institutional bodies construct the identities of marginalized citizens.
